After six years of working in ophthalmology clinics across Houston, Dr. Mapes opened his own optometric practice in December 1998, thus the beginning of Spectacles on Montrose.

Dr. Mapes graduated from the University of Houston College of Optometry in 1993. His externships were conducted at the University of Auckland, Auckland, New Zealand and Omni Eye Specialists of Denver, Colorado. Since then he has been associated with Texas Eye Institute, Houston Eye Associates and Bayshore Eye Associates. His years of working in hospital settings have provided him with a broad range of clinical ability and experience.

He is considered a leader in specialty contact lens examination and fitting, including bifocal gas permeable contact lenses and toric lenses for severe astigmatism. His personality makes every visit an enjoyable experience.

Dr. Mapes is available Monday through Saturday with evening appointments available Wednesday and Thursday. Appointments are recommended.
